Who we are:
Want to talk about something else than how the economy and the markets are doing? But not down with Oprah’s Book Club list? Then the Rye Newcomers Book Club for Guys is for you. It’s reading made with a guy’s sensibility in mind.
What: We read a broad range of non fiction and fiction. The only thing off the table is anything that smells even faintly of “chick lit”.
Where: We meet at a bar – usually the Road House, Kelly’s or the Tiki Bar in the summer.
When: Every 6-8 weeks, usually Tuesday nights at 8pm. (But with everyone’s busy schedules we’re flexible. Each meeting we vote on when the next one will be). How: Each meeting a different member gets to propose 2-3 options, o everybody votes. That way everybody gets to choose a book, but nobody is forced to read something they’re not interested in. (Don’t you wish the US elections were like this?).
(Not a big reader? No sweat, we typically talk about the book for half the meeting and then spend the rest of the time talking about….whatever.)
So come and join us! It’s a great way to make friends in the Rye community. Just join the Newcomers Club and email Alain Groenendaal so we can invite you to the next meeting.
